MC Lyte joins the list of rap icons who will be honored with the “I Am Hip Hop Award” at this year BET Hip Hop Awards. Nas, KRS-One, Russell Simmons, Ice Cupe, Salt-N-Pepe, and Rakim will also receive the accolade.
Lyte is one of the pioneering female voices in hip hop. The New York femcee dropped seven studio albums, including 1998′s “Lyte as a Rock” and 1993′s “Ain’t No Other,” which featured the hit track “Ruffneck.” She’s also appeared on several television shows, including “MTV Unplugged,” “In Living Color,” “Moesha,” “Cousin Skeeter,” and “New York Undercover.”
The Brooklyn native is the founder of the Hip Hop Sisters Foundation and president of Sunni Gyrl Inc.

Entertainment News Danny Brown Fans Start Petition to Allow Him Into Canada (@xdannyxbrownx)
Danny Brown was forced to cancel to recent Canadian shows after he was denied entry into the country. It’s not clear exactly why the Detroit rapper was blocked, but some of his fans have started a petition on activism.com to get him permission to enter the country for future shows. The creators of the petition accuse the Canadian govenment of “fighting a war on the arts” and suggest race may play a factor, as Brown was denied, yet Action Bronson was allowed entry.
Check out an excerpt from the petition below:
“This is a petition to the Canadian Customs/Government to allow Danny Brown, culturally-significant hip-hop artist from Detroit, MI into the country to perform. He has been denied entry both before AND after filing AND PAYING FOR all necessary paperwork for such.
Danny Brown is of significant cultural importance within the music community, and has many, many fans of his work in this country. He is not a significant threat to the security of our nation, and i feel that his entry denial is unfair, biased, and potentially racially motivated.”
Brown was heading to Canada with Action Bronson as part of the “2 High To Die Tour,” but only Bronson was able to make it to shows in Edmonton and Vancouver.
“Sorry Canada .. I tried,” Brown tweeted.

Entertainment News Claudia Jordan Tweets Joy After Tamar Leaves Tiny Tonight (@claudiajordan @tamarbraxtonher)
Vh1’s “Tiny Tonight” talk show had to replace Tamar Braxton with Tami Roman this season, and Claudia Jordan couldn’t seem happier. The radio and television personality tweeted about the “girl power” and “happiness” after a fan commented on recent “personnel changes on the show.”
@A_Pattycake asked Claudia, “@claudiajordan it’s great to see the smile on your face on set. What a difference a year (and a personnel change) makes!!!!!!!,” to which Claudia responded, “Entirely different show. Less obnoxious. More Girl power/fun. I’m with it!”
Claudia and Tamar got into Twitter rows in the past, and didn’t hide their disdain for one another on the show. The reality star left “Tiny Tonight” after persuing a hosting gig on Fox’s “The Real.”

Entertainment News Canadian Woman Arrested Smuggling Drugs in Fake Pregnant Belly
A 28-year-old Canadian woman named Tabitha Leah Ritchie was arrested in a Colombia airport attempting to smuggle two kilograms of cocaine inside of a strapped on fake pregnant baby bump belly. She was stopped prior to boarding an Air Canada flight in Bogota due to a security inspector noticing that her belly appeared to be “unusually cold and hard.”
If convicted of drug trafficking she could face up to eight years in prison.
